analog b/w photography
2004

These black and white analogue photographs are part of a series taken in the urban spaces of Havana between 2004 and 2007. In this work, I document and put together images that tell of social and political change and disenchantment in Cuba.

The first of these images is of the main gate/ door of the Palace of Justice, through which prisoners who have been sentenced leave for prison. The second is taken inside a popular market, whose history reveals the checkered path of local consumption of agricultural produce from around the country and which is putting on a smiling face with a poster celebrating and welcoming in the year 2004. The third photo is of a venue whose front has been totally boarded up in the roughest possible way. It may have been a space where political meetings were held a few years earlier.
